Alan Sheehan | We did the different elements of the game really well
Assistant head coach Alan Sheehan felt Swansea City had shown a blend of substance and style to secure their 1-0 win over Watford at the Swansea.com Stadium.
Myles Peart-Harris scored the only goal of the game – his first for the Swans – when he turned in Ronald’s knockdown from a Goncalo Franco cross.
The hosts had chances to hold an even greater lead. Peart-Harris hit the post, Ben Cabango had a goal ruled out for offside and Ronald was just unable to reach an inviting cross.
Watford were improved after the break, but the Swans defended stoutly to seal a fifth clean sheet of the season and climb to 10th in the table.
“That was a really pleasing night’s work. We won on the weekend and you need to then be able to go and back it up,” said Sheehan.
“We have played a team who have been doing quite well, so to get back in front of our own fans and see the game out like that was really pleasing.
“I thought we were exceptional for the first 60 minutes, and the game could have been over at half-time if we were more clinical.
“But credit to the players they keep digging out performances, and it’s very pleasing for everyone.
“We showed a lot of hunger, it was back-to-back games in three days and they worked tremendously hard, and we are delighted.
“In an ideal situation you would love to control 90 minutes, but against a Championship team with a lot of threats who scored six at the weekend it was incredibly pleasing to show that mentality.
“The crowd got right behind the team and it was really loud in here, so it was an excellent night.”
