Alan Sheehan | There is no room for complacency

Alan Sheehan has urged Swansea City to avoid complacency and make sure they carry their strong run of form into the final weeks of the season.

The Swans head to the Stadium of Light to face Sunderland this afternoon having taken seven points from the last nine on offer, and 14 from their last eight games.

That run has pulled them nine points clear of the bottom three and to within sight of a top-half finish.

And, having recorded back-to-back home wins and clean sheets against Derby County and Plymouth Argyle, the caretaker head coach wants to make sure there is no let-up as they prepare to face a dangerous Black Cats side, who have already secured themselves a place in the play-offs.

“You can never be complacent, and that is not a word I would associate with this group of players,” said Sheehan.

“Now we have to dust ourselves down after what was a really positive night for the club, and one where I felt a lot of pride at how the team played.

“Now it’s about getting to the next level. We have got past the 50-point mark, I think we moved up another place.

“But that challenge is always there, to finish as high as you can and to get the best points tally you can.

“Doing that is about focusing on every single game, there are five games to go and we have had a really positive period with 14 points from eight games.

“We’ve got a difficult game coming up, so we have to approach that properly, dust ourselves down and go into it knowing we are playing an excellent team.”
