Alan Sheehan | Some aspects of our game were exceptional

Caretaker head coach Alan Sheehan praised a battling performance as Swansea City claimed a 1-0 win over Middlesbrough at the Swansea.com Stadium.

Jisung Eom’s first-half strike was enough to claim three points for the Swans, the Korean curling in a fine finish from distance for his first goal in Swansea colours.

The win sees the Swans make it three consecutive clean sheets and they have now picked up back-to-back home wins.

And Sheehan was pleased with the performance against play-off chasing Boro, and felt that aspects of the first-half display were exceptional.

“We've played a very, very good team today and we've come away with the win,” said Sheehan.

“Some aspects of the first half were exceptional and the game could have been over, there's different ways to attack different teams, but if you're passive against this team, they can really, really hurt you

“Again, we showed that we're a good team, I think if I was going to sum up the game I'd probably say it's probably halfway between the Blackburn and Preston games.

“But I thought the game could have been potentially done at half-time, I think we had nine or 10 shots which is very pleasing against a team like this.

“We defend as a team, we attack as a team and I think that was important, when our 10 jumped our centre backs had to be brave. That's why I say we defend as a team, we attack as a team, but credit to lads, they were outstanding today.

“The credit goes to the players again because we give them all the detail and they're the ones that carry it out.

“And in terms of the fans getting involved, they were exceptional again and it's like they're seeing a team that are giving absolutely everything and trying to play high intensity football.

“There's still a lot of things to improve on from certain aspects of the game, but in terms of the things that we want to keep building here, like character, confidence, resilience, it's wonderful."

Sheehan was also pleased to see Eom open his account for the Swans and hopes it will be the first of many for the south Korean forward.

“Myles [Peart-Harris] missed out today, so Jisung [Eom] comes in, and what a wonderful goal,” said Sheehan.

“It’s probably a harder chance that he scored than the one he actually missed in the second-half, it’s wonderful.

“I’m delighted for him adding outcomes, his first goal for Swansea City and hopefully the first of many. He's a really good lad and I'm really happy for him.”
