Aimee Deacon | Reaching the final is an amazing feeling
Forward Aimee Deacon was delighted to reach her first senior final after helping Swansea City Women to a 3-2 win over Wrexham that booked their place in the Genero Adran Trophy final.
It was Deacon who fired the Swans in front after just two minutes at The Rock, tucking a shot into the bottom corner from Stacey John-Davis’ cross.
The 17-year-old was involved again before the break as she was brought down in the box, allowing John-Davis to step up to the spot and convert to make it 2-0 at half-time.
Carra Jones fired back for Wrexham after the break, before Emily Richards netted from close range with eight minutes to go. Wrexham would score againdeep into added time through Olivia Fuller, but couldn’t prevent the Swans reaching back-to-back Adran Trophy finals.
Having targeted silverware upon her arrival at Swansea City in the summer, Deacon is delighted to have the opportunity to pick up her first trophy when the Swans face The New Saints Women in Newtown on February 9.
“It’s a really amazing feeling,” said Deacon.
“I don’t know how to describe it, the way that we all stuck together to work towards our goals, it just feels amazing.
“At first I thought that my chance might not go in, but when I saw that it hit the back of the net I was just over the moon.
“It’s obviously a long trip for everyone, but every player gave it their all and left everything out on the pitch.
“I’ve never been this close to a trophy before, obviously with us being in the final now, so that feeling is really great.
“I feel that if we can all stick together in the same way that we did in the semi-final and keep working hard in training then I don’t see any reason why we can’t do it.
“The last time against TNS, our squad was spread really thin on that day and I think it was a great effort from the team, but we know with the full depth of our squad we can go one better.”
