Abraham delighted with international opportunity

Tammy Abraham revealed his delight at receiving his first England call-up ahead of the friendly fixtures against Germany and Brazil.

The 20-year-old, who is on a season-long loan from Chelsea, is the second player in the club’s history to be picked for the Three Lions' senior squad while at the Swans, with Jonjo Shelvey the first in 2015.

Abraham has scored five goals for England Under-21s in the last 18 months, and now he aims to make a big impression under senior boss Gareth Southgate in the fixtures against world champions Germany next Friday and Brazil four days later.

“I am very pleased,” said Abraham. “I have been working for this and I am grateful to be given the chance to prove myself. It is a good confidence boost for me and shows I have been doing the right thing.

“I found out this afternoon that I was in the squad. It was a nice surprise.

“I was in the physio room and it came up on the TV that I had been included. All the boys congratulated me. It was a good feeling and I am excited to link up with the team.

“Getting an England call is a nice achievement. Now I have to make sure I grab it with both hands.”

The striker has scored five goals in 13 appearances under Paul Clement since arriving in South Wales.

Abraham netted his first Premier League goal in the 2-0 win against Crystal Palace in August.

“The Swansea move has been a positive one for me,” he added. “It has been a good learning curve and I feel I am heading in the right direction.

“We are working hard to get more results. I am here to help the team as much as I can.”
