Sam Surridge struck a stoppage-time winner as Swansea City snatched victory at Wigan to end the Latics run of victories at the DW Stadium.

The substitute met Connor Roberts’ cross perfectly to give the Swans all three points and send the 500 travelling Jacks into joyous celebration.

Nathan Dyer’s first away league goal since May 2014 had given the Swans reward for a bright start as his left-footed effort found the net.

But Wigan were soon level as Kieffer Moore calmly finished from the spot after Mike van der Hoorn had fouled Chey Dunkley.

Both sides had their chances to find a winner, with some excellent covering defending seeing the Swans avert danger on a few occasions, but it was the visitors who took the spoils in a dramatic conclusion to an entertaining content.

Steve Cooper saw his side back up derby victory over Cardiff to keep themselves firmly among the pacesetters, and end Wigan's run of three-straight wins on their own patch.

The head coach has named an unchanged side from the Liberty victory over the Bluebirds and the Swans started confidently, with Dyer and Wayne Routledge seeing crosses cut out in the Wigan box inside the first 10 minutes.

And they took the lead through a fine flowing move in the 12th minute.

Routledge and Bersant Celina worked the ball down the left, and the latter’s pull-back was swept into the corner of the net by Dyer.

It ended Wigan’s run of four games without conceding a goal at home, and they responded, with a corner picking out Chey Dunkley only for the defender to head well over the bar.

And they were gifted an equaliser when van der Hoorn was correctly adjudged to have pulled Dunkley at a corner and Moore sent Freddie Woodman the wrong way from the spot.

The hosts were having a better spell, and Ben Wilmot had to be alert to clear two dangerous crosses in quick succession as Wigan had some joy down the flanks.

Swansea then had a good spell with Routledge, Dyer and Celina’s movement causing a headache for the Latics rearguard, with Cedric Kipre making an important challenge as Routledge’s cross nearly picked out Andre Ayew.

But neither side could add to their tally before the break as the teams headed back to the dressing rooms at the interval with the scores level.

Swansea made the better start to the second half, with Celina making two driving runs into Wigan territory, the first of which saw him whip in a dangerous ball that Wigan just about scrambled away.

Van der Hoorn had some scrambling of his own to do after his under-hit backpass put him in trouble and under pressure from Moore.

But the Dutchman recovered his composure to avert any further strife.

Routledge cut in from the left after good work by Jake Bidwell to fire wide of the post before Jamal Lowe struck the bar at the other end after beating a rash challenge from Wilmot.

Van der Hoorn then made an excellent covering challenge on Moore on the hour mark, after a wayward pass from Byers had sent Wigan ranging forward.

Cooper sent on Roberts for Dyer and the substitute forced David Marshall to race off his line to cut out Celina’s clever pass to feed an angled run.

At the other end Moore beat the offside trap, but Wilmot got back to make an excellent block as the Wales international pulled the trigger.

Sub Surridge was next to make an important defensive intervention, deflected Sam Morsy’s effort over the bar.

And his next intervention would prove the decisive moment of the game.
