Swans agree Gomis transfer
Swansea City has agreed the transfer of striker Bafetimbi Gomis to Galatasaray for an undisclosed fee, subject to paperwork approval and international clearance.
Gomis departs some three years after signing from the Swans from Lyon, although he spent last season on loan at Marseille.
The French international frontman made a total of 71 appearances for the Swans, 64 of which came in the Premier League, and scored 17 goals.
Having signed on a free transfer in the summer of 2014, Gomis initially struggled for game-time, with Wilfried Bony often picked ahead of him in attack.
But after Bony departed for Manchester City in January 2015, Gomis seized the chance to be the Swans’ main man up front.
He finished his maiden season in Wales with a run of six goals in 10 games, then kicked off the 2015-16 campaign by scoring in four straight top-flight fixtures.
However, he managed only three more goals that season – the last of which came at West Ham in May 2016 – as he was forced to battle the likes of Andre Ayew and Alberto Paloschi for opportunities up front.
Gomis returned to his homeland when he signed a year-long loan deal at Marseille last July.
The move proved a spectacular success, as he netted 21 times in 33 appearances in 2016-17.
His form led to the 31-year-old joining Galatasaray - the Istanbul giants who finished fourth in the Turkish league last season.
Everyone at Swansea City would like to thank Bafe for his service to the club and wish him well for the future.
